FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Boston Red Sox right-hander Josh Beckett is headed to Texas to have his injured thumb checked.

Beckett is slated to start Boston’s second game of the season, on Saturday at Detroit.

Right-hander Alfredo Aceves said Monday he has been told to be ready to pitch the second game, against the Tigers, and the home opener, if Beckett is not able to start.
