DENVER (AP) — A second person believed to have been killed in last week’s devastating wildfire in Colorado also called 911.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday that Ann Appel called to report smoke soon after the March 26 fire broke out.

The husband of a couple found dead at their burned out home had also called to report the fire.

When Appel called, she said smoke was blowing over her house. She was told that the fire had grown to 5 acres and that crews were on the way.

A friend also later called to ask authorities to check on Appel, explaining that she was getting chemotherapy and her husband was out of state. However, that call seems to have come after it was too late to help her.
