OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington state House Democrats say they plan to bring a budget proposal and a handful of related bills to the floor for a vote.

House Democratic budget negotiator Ross Hunter said Thursday that the Senate would have the opportunity to amend the budget as negotiations between the parties continue. He said the bill is both an effort to get the process moving and to show areas where the House Democrats have moved closer to the Senate Republican position.

House Democrats and Senate Republicans held rival news conferences on Wednesday in which each side touted the concessions made thus far. Hunter said Thursday that the sides are closer than they were at the end of the regular session, which concluded last month without a deal.

The special session ends April 10.
