MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — University of Minnesota is confirming the death of 22-year-old Gophers linebacker Gary Tinsely.
The athletics department says head coach Jerry Kill, senior quarterback MarQueis Gray and university Police Chief Greg Hestness will discuss Tinsely’s death at a Friday afternoon news conference.
News reports say Tinsely was the student found unresponsive Friday morning in his apartment at Roy Wilkins Hall on the Minneapolis campus. He was pronounced dead at the scene. University spokesman Chuck Tombarge says there’s no indication of foul play.
Tinsley, who was from Jacksonville, Fla., completed his eligibility at the end of the 2011 season. He played in 44 games during his Gopher career. He was No. 2 on the team in total tackles with 87 stops last season. He compiled 198 total tackles over his career.
