Efficient Clark sweeps Centralia

Clark College won a good old-fashioned pitcher’s dual on Friday, en route to a doubleheader baseball sweep of Centralia.

One run and one hit was all Clark got but it was enough for the 1-0 win in the first game at Kindsfather Field. The second game was a bit more routine with Clark winning 7-3.

Clark’s Ryan Schockey and Centralia’s Devon Barker each went the distance in the nine-inning first game. Schockey allowed six hits and struck out seven. Baker had the one hit and eight strikeouts. Neither pitcher walked a batter.

Clark’s hit didn’t even lead to a run. Nick Woods singled to lead off the third inning and was erased on a fielder’s choice.

The run scored in the fourth on a passed ball. Joel Johnson lead off by reaching on an error, advanced on a fielder’s choice and scored a passed ball.

In the second game, Clark tied it a 3-3 with a run in the fourth and then broke out with a four-run sixth.

The Penguins (14-6, 2-4 NWAACC West) scattered eight hits throughout the lineup. Matt Hopp was 2 for 2. Evan Pickett had two RBI.

The same two teams play again at 1 p.m. Saturday in Centralia.
