OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire is pitching a new compromise in hopes of ending a stalemate in the state Legislature.
Gregoire spokesman Cory Curtis said the Democrat will host lawmakers in her office Monday afternoon. The special session is set to end on Tuesday.
Curtis said there is general agreement on the budget but that the Legislature is stuck on what to do about a handful of policy changes, such as ending early retirement for state workers. He declined to discuss the specifics of the governor’s plan.
A Republican-led coalition in the Senate has been pushing the policy overhauls. Democrats hold power in the House and have been unwilling to embrace the GOP plans.
