BEND, Ore. (AP) — When a field burn got out of control and threatened homes near Bend, no firefighters responded because the property is outside a fire district.

The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says 14 deputies and an Oregon State Police trooper responded Monday afternoon and helped homeowners contain the fire.

It had spread in high winds and jumped a gravel road. The homeowners used two tractors and with the help of the officers they limited the fire to about 80 acres of grass field. No one was injured.
