LONDON (AP) — The All England Club has hired English rugby league chairman Richard Lewis as the chief executive of Wimbledon.

The former tennis pro will replace Ian Ritchie, who left Wimbledon this year to run the English rugby union’s governing body.

Lewis played for Britain in the Davis Cup from 1977-83, and reached No. 68 in the world rankings.

Lewis said on Tuesday that “as a former tennis professional, the prospect of helping shape the future of the club and the premier tennis tournament in the world is one to be relished.”

Lewis will leave his post with the Rugby Football League at the end of the month.
