Holton leads fundraising for Ore. attorney general

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Former U.S. Attorney Dwight Holton drew on extensive political connections to raise more cash than his rival in the Democratic primary for Oregon attorney general.

In campaign finance filings submitted late Tuesday, Holton reports raising $420,000, compared with $290,000 raised by Ellen Rosenblum, a former judge.

No Republicans are seeking the office, so the winner of the Democratic primary will almost certainly be the next attorney general, Oregon’s top lawyer and prosecutor.

Holton raised almost two-thirds of his money from donors outside Oregon, compared with about one-third for Rosenblum.

With five weeks to go before the May 15 primary, Holton had $330,000 to spend compared with $210,000 for Rosenblum.

Incumbent Democrat John Kroger announced last year that he wouldn’t seek re-election, citing an unspecified health condition.
