Achilles wins Santa Anita feature

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Achilles drew clear in the closing strides to beat War Politics by a length Thursday in the $58,000 Salisbury Purse for 3-year-olds at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Joe Talamo, Achilles ran a mile on the turf in 1:36.12 and paid $3.20, $2.80 and 2.10 as the 3-5 favorite.

War Politics returned $6.20 and $3, while Press Baron was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $3 to show.

The victory, worth $34,800, increased Achilles’ career earnings to $68,400.
