STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut center Andre Drummond has declared for the NBA draft after a single season of college basketball.
The 18-year-old freshman averaged 10 points for the Huskies this season while leading the team in rebounding at 7.6 per game.
Drummond said in a statement released Friday by UConn that he feels it is the right time to take the next step in his career.
UConn coach Jim Calhoun said Drummond has unlimited potential and has to take advantage of his opportunity.
The announcement comes days after UConn’s leading scorer, Jeremy Lamb, announced that he too will be leaving for the NBA.
