SEATTLE (AP) — The former treasurer of a charity affiliated with the Ronald McDonald House has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for embezzlement.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle said 50-year-old Randall Morrison stole more than $112,000 from the the nonprofit Ronald McDonald House Holiday Cruise, which solicits donations for the Ronald McDonald House and organizes activities for gravely ill children.
Morrison moved from Washington to Ohio to take a new job in 2006, while maintaining his job at at the Kirkland-based charity. Three years later, his new employer suspected him of embezzling, and informed the charity’s board. That’s when it became clear that Morrison had been diverting donations for sick kids and their families to his own uses.
The Ronald McDonald House Holiday Cruise says it still hasn’t recovered from the fraud, and is on the brink of ceasing operations.
