BOSTON (AP) — Add the Boston Marathon organizers to the list of people who were just happy to finish the race.
Officials from the Boston Athletic Association said Tuesday that the hot weather made the 116th edition of the event one of the most stressful in years.
Temperatures reached 89 on the course. That slowed down the leaders and sent more than 2,000 people in search of medical attention.
Wesley Korir, a native Kenyan who lives in Louisville, Ky., won the men’s race. His time was almost 10 minutes slower than the world best of 3 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds set by Geoffrey Mutai last year.
Sharon Cherop won the women’s race to complete the Kenyan sweep.
