UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Islanders say assistant coaches Scott Allen and Dean Chynoweth won’t return to coach Jack Capuano’s staff next season.

The moves were announced Monday, just more than a week after the Islanders finished their fifth straight nonplayoff season. New York (34-17-11) finished last in the Atlantic Division for the fifth consecutive year and next to last in the 15-team Eastern Conference. The Islanders had the fourth fewest points in the NHL.

Allen had been an assistant with the Islanders since July 2009, under former coach Scott Gordon. Chynoweth. He was a first-round draft pick of the Islanders in the 1987 and joined the coaching staff a month before Allen.

Capuano took over on an interim basis when Gordon was fired Nov. 15, 2010, and was given the job full time in April 2011.
