DENVER (AP) — The San Diego Padres have activated utility player Mark Kotsay from the 15-day disabled list.

To make room on the roster, San Diego optioned right-hander Brad Brach to Triple-A Tucson on Monday.

Kotsay signed with the Padres as a free agent last November, but missed the opening 10 games of the season due to a strained right calf muscle. He spent last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he hit .270.

The 36-year-old Kotsay turned in a solid spring training for the Padres, batting .345 with three RBIs.

Brach was 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA in five relief appearances for San Diego this season.
