VIENNA (AP) — The Austrian ski federation has signed Burkhard Schaffer as coach of its men’s downhill team including World Cup champion Klaus Kroell.

The federation said Tuesday that Schaffer will replace Andreas Evers, who has become coach of the American downhill skiers.

Schaffer worked as speed and head coach of the Canada men’s team from 2001-06 before leading the Austria slalom squad. For the past three seasons, Schaffer was in charge of the Slovenia downhill team.
