Salmon Creek — Poverty, homelessness and women’s activism were the topics during a panel discussion and book launch April 12 at Washington State University Vancouver for “No Room of Her Own: Women’s Stories of Homelessness, Life, Death and Resistance” by Desiree Hellegers. Hellegers, associate professor of English at WSUV, conducted interviews with 15 Seattle-based homeless women over the course of 20 years. Several of those interviewees were on hand for the panel discussion at the Vancouver campus. The event was followed by a book launch Friday night at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Southeast Portland.
