EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A Snohomish County deputy prosecutor says she doesn’t know how long it may take her to decide whether criminal charges are warranted in the March 10 fatal shooting of a Marysville Wash., police officer’s 7-year-old daughter.
County sheriff’s detectives have finished their investigation. They turned the case over to Deputy Prosecutor Lisa Paul on Wednesday.
Paul tells the Daily Herald (http://is.gd/nyzOta ) that she doesn’t yet know whether she’ll be requesting additional investigation or need to do more interviews. The newspaper says detectives made no recommendation.
Investigators believe Officer Derek Carlile and his wife had parked their van near a friend’s art gallery and were outside the vehicle talking with the friend when the shooting occurred. Jenna Carlile and other children were alone in the van when one of her siblings reportedly found a loaded handgun and fired it. The other children are believed to have been younger than the victim.
