SEATTLE (AP) — A King County Jail official says a 33-year-old Renton, Wash., inmate found unconscious in his cell last week has died at a Seattle hospital.

Cmdr. William Hayes said the man was found “in medical distress” in his county jail cell on April 16 and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where he died Tuesday.

The King County medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Hayes says the local public health agency is seeking permission from relatives to release additional details.

Hayes says the man was booked into the jail in downtown Seattle on April 9 for investigation of property destruction and harassment.

The spokesman says the public health agency and the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention will conduct an internal investigation of the death.
