SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane Fire Department is urging people to stay out of the rising Spokane River.

The river is running high and fast and water temperatures are very cold, making for dangerous conditions.

Flows in the Spokane River have reached more than 25.5 feet, and flood stage is 27 feet. The National Weather Service predicts the river will reach that point on Friday.

Even at flood stage, flooding within the city is usually minor.
