Tal Smith to advise new minor league team

SUGAR LAND, Texas (AP) — Former Houston Astros president Tal Smith has become a special adviser to Opening Day Partners, the parent company of a new minor league baseball team in the Houston area.

The Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League, who start their first season on April 26, announced the hiring Tuesday.

Smith was the Astros’ president of baseball operations from November 1994 through last November.
