COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) — The Colorado Rapids have signed Luis Eduardo “Edu” Schmidt, a Brazilian forward who has experience in Spain’s La Liga and the UEFA Champions League
Edu made his pro debut with Sao Paulo Futebol Clube of Brazil in 1997 and went to Celta de Vigo of La Liga, the top division in Spain, in 2000. He scored 28 goals in 117 appearances with the club, which he helped to its first ever appearance in the UEFA Champions League.
In 2004, he joined Real Betis of La Liga, scoring 41 goals in 136 appearances and again helping his team to its first Champions League appearance.
He moved back to Brazil in 2009, and has since played with Internacional and Vitoria in his home country.
