The Skyview softball team locked up the top seed from the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League — with plenty of season to spare.
The Storm beat Heritage 10-0 on Wednesday, improving to 8-1 in league play. Up three games with three to play, the worst that could happen to the Storm is a tie for first place, and they own the tiebreaker with every team in the league.
“I don’t know why I get so emotional. I just love this team,” said sophomore pitcher Michelle Brincefield, who struck out eight in a two-hit shutout.
The Storm reached the Class 4A state semifinals last year and returned most of their players this season.
“We’ve had targets on our backs this season. Everyone was coming after Skyview,” Brincefield said. “To be a part of this team two years in a row, it’s just unbelievable.”
Wednesday, the Storm totaled 15 hits and ended the game in the sixth inning via the 10-run rule.
Madison Anthony blasted a grand slam in the fifth inning.
“We have the team. We just really need to focus up this year,” Anthony said. “We’re just as good as we were last year.”Freshman Emily Garcia, who went 4 for 4, hit a solo home run to open the sixth, ending the game.
