LONDON (AP) — A judge at London’s High Court says he doesn’t trust the Americans who used to own the Premier League club Liverpool as they pursue legal action over the forced sale of the club.

Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. lost control of Liverpool in what they claimed was an “epic swindle” by club directors and a bank in Oct. 2010.

The parent company of the Boston Red Sox bought the 18-time English champions for 300 million pounds (then $476 million).

Judge Peter Smith told layers representing Hicks and Gillett: “I do not trust your clients,” claiming they have demonstrated “if it suits them they will abuse the process.”

Smith won’t grant Hicks and Gillett full access to private documentation in the litigation over fears about “potential misconduct.”
