CINCINNATI (AP) — The Houston Astros placed right-hander Kyle Weiland on the 15-day disabled list — retroactive to April 25 — with an injury to his throwing shoulder, and infielder Marwin Gonzalez was placed on paternity leave to be with his wife as she prepares to give birth to their child.

Infielder Brian Bixler and left-handed pitcher Fernando Abad were recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill the roster spots.

Weiland was 0-3 with a 6.62 ERA in three starts this season. The switch-hitting Gonzalez was hitting .231 with one RBI in 16 games. Gonzalez is expected to return to the Astros by the time they open a home stand Monday against the New York Mets.
