RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Even with picking up Matt Flynn in free agency, the Seattle Seahawks decided to add another quarterback to their roster by drafting Wisconsin’s Russell Wilson with the 75th overall pick in the third round of the NFL draft on Friday night.

The decision to take Wilson may be a bit of a surprise with Seattle signing Flynn to a three-year deal in the offseason and with starter Tarvaris Jackson under contract for one more season. Seattle has also been high on undrafted rookie Josh Portis, who was Seattle’s No. 3 QB last season.

Wilson was a star in his final year at Wisconsin. He helped the Badgers win the Big Ten title before falling to Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Wilson set the NCAA record for pass efficiency at 191.8 last season while throwing for 3,175 yards and 33 touchdowns.
