1. The rise of reggae
The Kiggins Theatre offers a look at a life of the reggae legend with the documentary “Marley.” The film examines Bob Marley’s rise to stardom, his universal appeal, as well as his impact on music and social history, through family footage, interviews and concert performances. “Marley” is rated PG-13.

2. Forge new connections
More than 120 exhibits will be on display at the 50+ Connections Expo, featuring information on a range of topics, from recreation to health resources. The event is aimed at empty nesters and retirees — though the expo is open to all ages. You can take advantage of various health screenings, mini presentations and hands-on activities, meet a couple of llamas and shop at the Expo Boutique.

3. Paddle away the weekend
Learn something new on Vancouver Lake with the Spring Paddle Festival. The event features two days of clinics, boat demonstrations and time to test paddle kayaks and canoes. Free instructions and demonstrations will be hosted by Alder Creek Kayak & Canoe.

4. Get a buccaneer-ful with animated “pirates!”
The enthusiastic Pirate Captain (voiced by Hugh Grant) wants to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) for the Pirate of the Year Award. But the Captain’s ragtag crew and his less than impressive plundering targets make his quest seemingly impossible. But when Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton) declares a war on buccaneering, the Pirate Captain takes a heroic stand in this animated comedy adventure. “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” is rated PG.
