Bernard Tomic wins opener at BMW Open

MUNICH (AP) — Fifth-seeded Bernard Tomic of Australia defeated Olivier Rochus of Belgium 6-4, 6-3 in the only main-draw match Monday in the first round of the BMW Open.

Fifth-ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France headlines a field that includes defending champion Nikolay Davydenko of Russia.

Tsonga is playing in Munich for the first time as he seeks to win his first title on clay.

The Munich tournament is one of the warmup events for the French Open.
