Washington D.C. — Students from Mountain View High School and Shahala Middle School competed in the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl last week in the nation’s capital.

The team from Shahala advanced to the top eight of the competition before being eliminated. The Mountain View team did not reach the top 16.

The National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science. Teams are quizzed in a fast-paced question-and-answer format like that of the TV show Jeopardy. Teams are four or five students each, with a teacher who serves as an adviser and coach.
