EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Congressman Rick Larsen says he may get involved in the effort to save the Green Mountain forest fire lookout in the wilderness near Darrington.

The Snohomish County Council passed a resolution last month encouraging Congress to amend the Wilderness Act to allow historic and culturally significant structures to be maintained.

The Daily Herald reports (http://is.gd/g67LST ) the Darrington Historical Society has also asked for help from Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell.

A federal judge ordered the Forest Service to remove the lookout from the top of the 6,500 peak in the Glacier Peak Wilderness. Built in 1933 and no longer used as a lookout, it was restored in 2009 and remains a hiking destination.

The lookout is on state and national registers of historic places.
