EATONTOWN, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have signed veteran kicker Josh Brown, bringing in an experienced leg to compete with incumbent Nick Folk for the starting job.

Speaking at a charity event Tuesday night, coach Rex Ryan says Brown gives the team “two excellent kickers” and it will be “a great competition” between him and Folk this summer.

The 33-year-old Brown was released by the Rams last weekend after St. Louis drafted his potential replacement, Greg Zuerlein of Missouri Western, in the sixth round Saturday. Brown, who was entering the final year of a five-year, $14.2 million deal, is a career 81 percent kicker but was 21 for 28 on field goals last season.

Folk, entering his third season with the Jets, was re-signed in March after going 19 for 25.
