TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) — Seattle Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson has been fined by Major League Soccer for making an inappropriate gesture at the end of the Sounders’ match Saturday against the Chicago Fire.
Johnson was fined on Tuesday by the MLS. The amount of the fine was not disclosed.
Johnson scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in Seattle’s 2-1 win over the Fire. Johnson appeared to make the gesture as he walked off the field at the end of the game.
In a statement issued by the Sounders, Johnson apologized to Chicago fans, his teammates and Sounders supporters for his actions.
Johnson says his emotions got the best of him and that he’s sorry his actions took away from “a great win in Chicago.”
