BOSTON (AP) — The Red Sox added reliever Craig Breslow, acquired from Arizona at the trading deadline, and recalled catcher Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Pawtucket before Wednesday’s game against Detroit.

Breslow, picked up for reliever Matt Albers and outfielder Scott Podsednik Tuesday, had travel delays and was barely able to make it for the game. To make room for him, Clayton Mortensen was sent back to Pawtucket. Lavarnway was recalled because Daniel Nava was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left wrist.

The 31-year old Breslow was 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA with the Diamondbacks. It’s his second stint with the Red Sox. He made 13 appearances in 2006. Lavarnway is up for the first time this season. He played in 17 games last season, hitting .231 with two homers and eight RBIs.

Mortensen recorded the win in Tuesday’s rain-shortened 4-1 decision over the Tigers, going 2 2-3 scoreless innings of relief.

Nava is hitting .251 with four homers and 27 RBIs.
