AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand has withdrawn from the Bridgestone Invitational because of a sprained ankle.

Jaidee, who won the Wales Open in early June to qualify for this World Golf Championship, opened with a 73. Tournament officials say he appeared to step in a hole walking off the ninth green in the middle of the opening round.

Jaidee, a 42-year-old who is ranked 108th, received a special invitation to the PGA Championship next week at Kiawah Island.
