WASHINGTON (AP) — The Miami Marlins have placed second baseman Emilio Bonifacio on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left thumb and purchased the contract of infielder Nick Green from Triple-A New Orleans.

Bonifacio injured his thumb in the ninth inning of Friday’s game against Washington, and manager Ozzie Guillen said afterward that he thought that the injury would be season-ending.

X-rays on Bonifacio’s thumb were negative. Guillen said on Saturday that he felt Bonifacio, who had surgery on the thumb in May, would play again when he’s eligible.

Green was batting .344 with 12 home runs and 47 RBIs at New Orleans.
