COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Columbus Crew midfielder Kirk Urso has died at an Ohio hospital.

Franklin County Coroner Dr. Jan Gorniak says Urso was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. Sunday at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

The coroner says no cause of death has been determined and an autopsy will be performed Monday.

Urso played in six games this season and was sidelined by groin surgery in May. Team spokesman Marco Rosa says Rosa was not with the team when it lost 1-0 Saturday to D.C. United in Washington.

The 22-year-old Urso had been in his first season with the Crew. A native of Lombard, Ill., he had played on North Carolina’s NCAA title-winning team last fall and for the U.S. under-17 World Cup team in 2007.
