LONDON (AP) — An Olympic official from the country of St. Kitts and Nevis says sprinter Kim Collins was missing for several days before he was expelled by his team from the London Olympics.

Team vice president Dennis Knight tells The Associated Press the former 100-meter world champion left the athletes village on Wednesday and was then “non-communicative,” preventing officials from confirming his entry on Friday for the 100 heats.

Collins was kicked out by the team on Saturday. He says he was punished for spending time with his wife, who was in London for the games. Knight says that has “nothing to do with the issue.”

Knight adds that Collins “never properly reported back to camp. This meant he missed scheduled practices, and, most importantly, he did not appear and did not respond to management and coaches’ attempt to contact him so his registration could be confirmed.”
