COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Urban Meyer spent Monday’s first full team practice at Ohio State not watching what players did so much as looking at their faces.
Meyer, hired to take over the NCAA-sanctioned program last November, said by looking inside his players’ facemasks he could tell who was really working hard — and who was just trying to get by.
Average, he said, won’t be tolerated on this year’s Buckeyes. It’ll be up to him and his staff to motivate those who just settle for average into reaching for something more.
The Buckeyes need to be a lot better than last year’s 6-7 record. They return eight starters on defense and seven on offense and, with an NCAA bowl ban, have only 12 games to turn the program around.
