LONDON (AP) — Britain’s royal family will be upstaged by sporting royalty when the country’s Olympic medal haul is celebrated outside Buckingham Palace.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to flood The Mall in September at the end of an open-top bus parade through the streets of London. The parade starts in the financial district.

Britain has enjoyed success at the Olympics not seen since 1908 when London also hosted the games. It has won 22 golds with four days still to go.

The British Olympic Association hopes children will be allowed out of school for the celebration on Monday, Sept. 10, the day after the closing ceremony for the Paralympics. Britain’s competitors in the Paralympics will take part in the parade.
