MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Blair Walsh has made most of his field-goal attempts in training camp with the Minnesota Vikings, including several from 50-plus yards.

But that’s just practice. The sixth-round draft pick from Georgia will get his first opportunity to kick in an NFL game when the Vikings play at San Francisco to start the preseason. And Walsh says he’s ready to prove the team made the right decision by going with a rookie kicker this year without any challengers on the roster.

The Vikings let veteran Ryan Longwell go this spring.

Walsh says he’s not anxious, just eager to put the purple uniform on for the first time. He says he’s focused on having fun and simply doing what he’s been doing since he was a freshman in high school.
