BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns rookie Trent Richardson has had surgery on his left knee.
The Browns issued a statement Thursday that the running back, drafted No. 3 overall, had what the team termed “routine arthroscopic” surgery by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla.
Andrews did a similar procedure on Richardson on Feb. 3, to repair damaged meniscus cartilage.
Coach Pat Shurmur, with the team in Detroit, where the Browns open their preseason Friday night, issued a statement saying that he hoped Richardson would be able to return by the season opener Sept. 9.
Richardson sat out practice for the first time Tuesday with soreness in the knee.
