LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Santa Anita Park will host the 2013 Breeders’ Cup, marking the fourth time in six years the California track has been chosen as the site for thoroughbred racing’s version of a world championship.

The Breeders’ Cup announced Thursday that the two-day event is set for Nov. 1-2, 2013. This year’s Breeders’ Cup also is at Santa Anita, on Nov. 2-3.

The event features 15 races with purses totaling more than $25 million, topped by the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic. The results often determine champions in each of the sport’s many divisions.

Santa Anita previously hosted the Breeders’ Cup in 1986, 1993, 2003 and 2008-09. Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., was the site of the Breeders’ Cup in 2010-11.
