CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia is bringing its prolific passing game to the Big 12.
Quarterback Geno Smith returns for his senior season after throwing for nearly 4,400 yards and 31 touchdowns a year ago. And he’ll have his top two targets back.
Tavon Austin had a school-record 101 receptions a year ago and led the nation in all-purpose yards, while Stedman Bailey had 1,279 receiving yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 10-3 record in their final season in the Big East, including a 70-33 Orange Bowl win over Clemson. Smith says he’s focusing on correcting the mistakes that cost his team in other games.
The season opener is Sept. 1 at home against Marshall.
