Officers at area police departments are ending the summer with extra drunken driving patrols in an effort to reduce traffic fatalities to zero by 2030.
From Aug. 17 through Sept. 3, law enforcement from Battle Ground, Camas, Ridgefield and Vancouver police departments, along with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, will add more DUI patrols as part of Washington’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan and Target Zero project.
In 2011, officers arrested 96 impaired drivers in Clark County for driving under the influence, according to a sheriff’s office bulletin.
Officers are also asking people to report drunk drivers by calling 911. They are also asked to prevent people who are impaired from getting behind the wheel by taking their keys, calling a cab or calling a friend to get a ride.
