Unmanned aircraft maker Insitu Inc. announced this month it completed a test flight of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps’ small tactical unmanned aircraft system RQ-21A at Insitu’s test facility in Eastern Oregon.

Designed for real-time surveillance and reconnaissance missions, the system has a bigger payload than the company’s ScanEagle.

Insitu Inc., a Boeing subsidiary since 2008, also announced this month that the Military Aviation Authority of the Netherlands has authorized customers in that country to fly the ScanEagle under a limited military aircraft classification.

Insitu employs about 800 people in communities up and down the Columbia River Gorge, including Bingen, Hood River, Ore., White Salmon, Stevenson and Vancouver.
