MASON, Ohio (AP) — Andy Murray lost in straight sets to an opponent he has dominated during his career, tumbling out of the Western & Southern Open.

Jeremy Chardy of France beat Murray 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals on Thursday. Murray had won their four previous matches, losing only one set.

Murray won an Olympic gold medal at Wimbledon, then dropped out of the Rogers Cup in Toronto last week with a sore left knee. He said the knee felt good in his opening match on Wednesday.

Serena Williams reached the quarterfinals on Thursday and extended her winning streak to 19 matches. Top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska and No. 5 Angelique Kerber also won.

Mardy Fish and Juan Mardin del Potro moved on with victories.
