Letter: Freedom under assault

The Columbian
Published: August 16, 2012, 5:00pm

Strange how the same people (anti-gun) in the USA who do not want Americans to possess assault weapons are more than happy to support the right of the “democratic rebels” in Syria to fight their government with assault weapons, cannons, bazookas, and even anti-aircraft guns.

What would human life be worth in Syria without the people having access to assault weapons?

The reason we have the right to bare arms and own assault weapons is just in case freedom-loving Americans need to protect themselves from oppressive government.

As First Amendment rights are taken away, Second Amendment rights are designed to take them back.

As one of our nation’s Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson, said: “The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that… it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.”

And another, George Mason, said: “To disarm the people (is) the best and most effectual way to enslave them.”
