SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) — The wait is nearly over for Uganda at the Little League World Series.

The first team from Africa to advance to South Williamsport in the 66-year history of the tourney makes its debut Friday against Panama.

Uganda has been practicing at the Little League complex for a week. The players from Lugazi are popular with the rest of the 16-team field at the dorms.

Now, it’s finally time for them to play baseball again.

It’s been a special month already for Uganda sports after Stephen Kiprotich won gold in the men’s marathon race at the London Olympics.

In early games, Canada played stellar defense down the stretch to hold off Mexico in a 13-9 slugfest; and Texas beat New Jersey 5-2.
