Jockey Irad Ortiz thrown, hurts ankle at Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. has been taken to a hospital for evaluation of an ankle injury after he was thrown from his mount in the starting gate at Saratoga Race Course.

Ortiz was aboard Corinzia about to start the third race Friday when he was thrown.

The 20-year-old jockey is scheduled to ride second-favorite Questing in Saturday’s $600,000 Alabama Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.
