PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ousted Penn State President Graham Spanier is fighting back against criticism of how he handled the Jerry Sandusky sex-abuse scandal, as he waits to learn if he’ll be charged in the alleged cover-up.
Spanier tells The New Yorker magazine that he’s stunned by the university-backed report prepared by ex-FBI director Louis Freeh.
Spanier says it’s ridiculous to say he’d cover up for a child predator for the sake of avoiding bad publicity. He says he made decisions that took heat every day of his 16-year tenure.
Spanier’s lawyers, meanwhile, are also attacking Freeh’s report, calling it “blundering” and “biased.”
